KiDS-1000: Constraints on the intrinsic alignment of luminous red galaxies

چکیده
We constrain the luminosity and redshift dependence of intrinsic alignment (IA) a nearly volume-limited sample luminous red galaxies selected from fourth public data release Kilo-Degree Survey (KiDS-1000). To measure shapes galaxies, we used two complementary algorithms, finding consistent IA measurements for overlapping galaxy sample. The global significance detection across our independent samples, with favoured method shape estimation, is ∼10.7 σ . find no significant signal in range 0.2 < z 0.8, nor below L r ≲ 2.9 × 10 h −2 , ⊙ Above this luminosity, however, that increases as power law, although results are also compatible linear growth within current uncertainties. This behaviour motivates use broken law model when accounting contamination cosmic shear studies.

Constraints on the Merging Timescale of Luminous Red Galaxies , Or , Where Do All the Halos Go ?
In the ΛCDM cosmology dark matter halos grow primarily through the accretion of smaller halos. Much of the mass in a halo of 10 M⊙ comes in through accretion of ∼ 10 M⊙ halos. If each such halo hosted one luminous red galaxy (LRG) then the accretion of so many halos is at odds with the observed number of LRGs in clusters unless these accreted LRGs merge or disrupt on relatively short timescales...
متن کامل3d Genus Topology of Luminous Red Galaxies
We measure the 3D genus topology of large scale structure using Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and find it consistent with the Gaussian random phase initial conditions expected from the simplest scenarios of inflation. This studies 3D topology on the largest scales ever obtained. The topology is sponge-like. We measure topology in two volume-limited samples: a dens...
متن کاملLuminous red galaxies in hierarchical cosmologies
Luminous red galaxies (LRGs) are much rarer and more massive than L∗ galaxies. Coupled with their extreme colours, LRGs therefore provide a demanding testing ground for the physics of massive galaxy formation. We present the first self-consistent predictions for the abundance and properties of LRGs in hierarchical structure formation models. We test two published models which use quite differen...
متن کاملCosmic homogeneity demonstrated with luminous red galaxies
We test the homogeneity of the Universe at z ∼ 0.3 with the Luminous Red Galaxy (LRG) spectroscopic sample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. First, the mean number N(R) of LRGs within completely surveyed LRG-centered spheres of comoving radius R is shown to be proportional to R at radii greater than R ∼ 70 h Mpc. The test has the virtue that it does not rely on the assumption that the LRG sample...
متن کاملIntrinsic Ellipticity Correlation of Sdss Luminous Red Galaxies and Misalignment with Their Host Dark Matter Halos
We investigate the orientation correlation of giant elliptical galaxies by measuring the intrinsic ellipticity correlation function of 83,773 luminous red galaxies (LRGs) at redshifts 0.16 – 0.47 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We have accurately determined the correlation up to 30 h Mpc. Luminosity dependence of the ellipticity correlation is also detected although the error bars are large,...
